Laser Pigment Removal

Reduce Age Spots

Light treatments are extremely effective at removing pigmented lesions.

Pigmented lesions are localised excess melanin. Excess melanin can appear as:

  • Brown spots
  • Age spots
  • Liver spots
  • Freckles
  • Cafe au lait macules

These collections of excess melanin are most often found on the face, hands and decollete – areas that are commonly exposed to the sun. Sun damage is the leading cause of pigmented lesions.

Using Laser we are able to remove excess melanin within the skin.

Pigment removal after 1 session

How it works

Pigmented lesions are removed through laser treatments by exposing the lesion to 755 nm wavelength Laser.  The melanin in the epidermal pigmented lesion absorbs the Laser light, which leads to heating, and the consequent destruction, of the melanin. After treatment the lesion will be slightly darker, and will shed or flake off in the week following treatment.

Sun protection

Pigmented lesions may reappear over time, therefore it is important to use sunscreen to protect from further sun damage, preferably with 50 SPF.

Patient results and treatment experiences may vary.

1. Treatment information

Treatments can take as little as 15 minutes for single lesions or up to 40 minutes for multipule lesions.

Some lesions disappear from one treatment, whereas others may take up to 3 to get full clearance.

Treatments can be delivered every 4 weeks.

Seborrhoeic Keratosis usually takes 1 session

2. Downtime

The treatment is generally well tolerated, usually likened to a pinching or heating sensation.

Minor redness can last up to 48 hours.

Darkening of the lesions is expected until flaking of the melanin occurs. The lesion should not be removed, but allowed to flake off naturally.
